Natural stones are formed from rocks which are made up of different chemical compositions, on the layers of the earth. After processing, these natural stones are used for different purposes. The most commonly used natural stones are granite, marble, limestone, etc. These natural stones have been found to have great usability value due to their hard composition and their ability to sustain in different conditions. They are used for making granite countertops in kitchens, marble countertops and flooring and limestone flooring is also commonly used outdoors, in gardens or backyards.
Granite is composed of magma, which is molten rock and hence has high durability. In general it is made up of grains of crystals. Granite is used commonly for flooring and also for foundations of buildings. Granite countertops are quite popular in Houston TX. Due to the excessive availability of granite in Houston and also its resistance to heat and being scratch proof, it is a common choice for countertops in the kitchens. Granites are available in a wide variety of colors. Another popular choice for countertops in Houston is marble. Marble countertops in Houston TX are widely opted for because of the classy look it gives a kitchen and it is also has long durability, although the resistance to heat is lesser when compared to granite. Marble is a very hard rock, due to its chemical composition and can deteriorate only when there is failure from the part of the construction process. It is less porous and hence does not allow much water to seep through its composition. It also allows easy polishing and gives a pretty appearance.
Limestone is made up of a large volume of the mineral calcite and hence is rich in calcium. Due to this it supports the growth of plants. Lime stones absorb water easily and hence are used widely in places like gardens or backyards or any place near which water flows. Since it is hard it is also used for statutes and buildings. Lime stones, because of its subtle appearance are also used to give buildings a historic look. But, usage of limestone in kitchen countertops is avoided because its composition may weaken due to exposure to vinegar or the juice of any calcium enriched fruit.
Another natural stone, sandstone which is made up of granules of sand is also very usable by nature. Since it is made by combining sand grains with cements made of different minerals, it can handle toughness and hence is used as a building material. This natural stone is used for making hard substances like grit stones and also for buildings that face high temperature or strong wind. It is resistant to heat and hence is used in fire places. Also, sandstone allows it to be carved beautifully and is used in many monuments. Its availability in different colors makes it an obvious choice for a beautiful appearance.
The slate stone, which is yet another natural stone, is used in tiles and to make roofs. This stone can be easily split and is attachable with the mere use of strong glue. This is less porous and does not deter due to exposure to water.
These different natural stones are variable in their characteristics due to their chemical composition, but are ultimately hard and durable, hence making them useful for many things.
